By default, the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub device driver polls the health or responsiveness of the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub (Timeout) every 10 seconds. The device driver considers the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub to be non-responsive if driver does not receive a response after (Heartbeat Frequency) 60 seconds.

Resolution:

Note: The Configure button only appears if you have a Multi-Interface ESP Ethernet Serial Hub (Avocent Ethernet Serial Provider) divice driver installed. Download the Avocent ESP Device Drivers.

2. Righ-click the Avocent Ethernet Serial Provider (Hint: Make sure that it is the same IP address of the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub).
   
   
   
3. The Avocent Ethernet Serial Providere Properties appears, click to select ESP tab.
   
   
   
4. Notice that a Broken Heart icon exists if that is the case. Click Configure button.
   
   
5. Change the values in the ESP Parameters section;
   

   • To set the frequency at which the device driver polls the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub
     Type a value in the Heartbeat Frequency box to represent the number of seconds the device driver will wait before it polls the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub again. For instance, 5 seconds.
     
     
   • To set how long the device driver waits for a response before it considers the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub to be non-responsive
     Type a value in the Timeout box to represent the number of seconds the device driver will wait for a response from the ESP Ethernet Serial Hub before the device driver considers the unit non-responsive. For instance, 120 seconds.

7. Revisit the Avocent Ethernet Serial Providere Properties and ESP tab, and then run the ESPDIAG tool.
   
   
   
8. In ESPDIAG.TXT, notice that the TCP State is 'Active' and UDP State is 'Heartbeat'. As well as COM Ports are in both TCP 'Active' state and UDP 'Heartbeat' state. The unit is re-connected and ready.
